Adobe is discontinuing Creative Suite in favour of their new subscription-based “Creative Cloud”. You may want to consider picking up Adobe CS 6.0 before it is gone for good!
If you follow the technology news, you’ll be aware that Adobe recently announced that they are discontinuing Creative Suite 6.0 and are replacing it with their new subscription only “Creative Cloud” package. The costs will be in the $50/month range for each user, with discounts given for students and existing CS 6.0 users for the first year. Though there are certainly some benefits to the subscription offering, some users are crying “foul” over the change.
One of the major complaints we’ve seen is that the new model does not permit any sort of “ownership” of the software license. Instead of buying the software (or upgrading to the new version as it is released), users can only work with the software as long as they continue to pay their subscription every month. In response, we’ve heard from many users that they will upgrade to CS 6.0 and try to stay with it as long as possible (while observing the effects of the subscription model imposition on the industry).
There is also some concern that users will only be allowed to use those APPs Adobe permits them to use on the cloud. For example, we have many users still comfortable using Adobe CS 5.0. Would they be permitted to use older software on Creative Cloud or would they be forced to upgrade to the newest version of the software?
What sort of issues will users have when separated from the cloud? Will it stop functioning? Adobe has indicated that it will continue to operate for “a time”.
