Earlier this year Apple introduced their new trackable line of products to the market in the form of AirTags.
AirTags are about the size of a toonie and are able to be tracked using Apple popular “Find My” app service, helping users keep track of important items while also keeping personal information safe and secure.
How do they work?
Apple notes:
“Your AirTag sends out a secure Bluetooth signal that can be detected by nearby devices in the Find My network. These devices send the location of your AirTag to iCloud — then you can go to the Find My app and see it on a map. The whole process is anonymous and encrypted to protect your privacy. And itʼs efficient, so thereʼs no need to worry about battery life or data usage.”
I have been using my set of AirTags for the past month and have been very happy with these cool little devices. Like many people, I sometimes find myself wasting time searching for my keys before I need to leave my home. With an AirTag attached to my keyring I am now able to play a sound and use my phone to track them down within my house in seconds instead of pulling my living area apart in a rush to find them. Less stress in the morning – more time for coffee!
I now have an AirTag in the glove box of my car. In the event that my car is stolen I will be able to pinpoint its location and notify law enforcement to help retrieve my property. Recently I had to have my car towed to the auto repair shop and, as a test, the Find My app was able to show the specific location of my car – exactly where I expected it to be! My dog even has an AirTag attached to her collar, I hope I never need to try and track her down but I like the peace of mind that the AirTag provides as an option to help find her, just incase she gets lost!
These devices have been designed to track objects and not people. Apple has built in security to notify you if an AirTag is close by and/or moving with you so that they can not be used to track someone without their knowledge.
AirTags come at the affordable price point of $39 per tag or in a 4 pack for $129.99, the Find My app is free to use and works on all Apple devices. I highly recommend these devices for anyone who has trouble keeping track of important objects or if you want to add an additional option to track down something important in an emergency situation.
